FAQs about Wildnote's new ArcGIS integration and mapping functionality

These FAQs answer questions about current and upcoming functionality.

How do I make lines and polygons in Wildnote?

Here's an article devoted to that topic! Note: This feature is currently available for iOS users.

Can I see my ESRI maps and layers in Wildnote?

Yes! You simply need to add your ArcGIS Online Web Map ID or layer URL(s) to your Project Setup>Info>Advanced Settings>ArcGIS Integration. Check out how! Remember to select User ArcGIS Credentials as your method of authentication if you are adding a non-public map or URL.

Can I log in with my ESRI credentials in the mobile app?

Yes! You or your project manager need to select User ArcGIS Credentials as your method of authentication under Project Setup>Info. Once selected, you will be prompted within the Wildnote mobile app to log in with your ESRI credentials when you select the map view.

Does it work offline?

We are currently working on this feature with an anticipated release date of August 1st.

When will I be able to draw lines and polygons with my Android device?

We anticipate releasing these features on Android by the end of 2024.

Why can I only see some of the dropped points in my project?

You will only see the dropped points contained in the surveys that are on your device which is controlled by a combination of sync limit and your role within a project. If you need to see more of the dropped points in the project, then increase the mobile sync limit (Project Setup>Project Info>Advanced Settings>Mobile Sync Limit), and/or ask for your role to be changed to either Field Lead or Field User+.

How do I turn on tracks or streaming?

Do you have a buffer tool?

Can I see my photos in the map view?

Photos are linked in a table included with the GeoJSON export. A mobile map view for these photos is planned.

Can I make freeform points, lines, and polygons from the map view on mobile, or do I always have to have a form with those question types available?

Get ready for more flexible data collection! We'll soon allow you to not only use forms, but also directly add points, lines, and polygons on the map for your projects.

Can I see and edit my points, lines, and polygons in the web app?

You can currently export your data as Geospatial Open Source(GeoJSON). We're also working on letting you directly publish feature layers to your ArcGIS Online account in the future.

How do I export my geospatial data?

You can easily export your Wildnote collected geospatial data by using our Geospatial Open Source(GeoJSON) export type. You can find this in the Wildnote Export Library in any project and add it to your list of available exports. ArcGIS Online and Arc Pro both recognize this file type.  Details are available in this article.

Can I publish my data to ArcGIS online?

We plan on allowing users to log into ArcGIS Online through our web map view and publish their data directly to a feature layer in ArcGIS Online.

Can I create a figure in Wildnote?

Coming soon! We plan on allowing users to include a simple figure of geospatial data collected within Wildnote.

Can I assign symbols and colors to different features?
